Welcome to Westside Park Elementary! A wonderful school community of students, staff and families dedicated to high student achievement. Our positive school culture encourages students to thrive as they grow academically and socially. It has been my pleasure to serve as Principal of our excellent school since 2013.
Students excel when high expectations are clearly established. Our rigorous academic program prepares students for college and future careers through Common Core State Standards based curriculum and instruction. Our school focus “College Bound Wildcats are Eager Readers and Writers” is interwoven across all curricular areas. Our Wildcats understand the connection reading and writing have to their success. They are motivated to develop a life-long love of reading and writing. Students are encouraged to strengthen their reading and writing skills using the Lexia Core 5, Accelerated Reader; Reading Wonders ConnectED; Young Authors’ programs and “Drop Everything and Read (DEAR)” time. Students enjoy sharing good books with their cross-grade level reading buddies.
At Westside Park, students enjoy the rewards of making good choices and recognize their key role in creating a positive school climate. Students collaborate together using positive strategies learned through the Safe School Ambassador program. Our Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program supports daily school-wide expectations for behavior choices.
Our enrichment and intervention programs support student achievement. Students eagerly participate in the daily Before School Computer intervention classes. The GATE, Basketball, math and journalism clubs provide fun and enriching opportunities for our Wildcats. The After School Think Together program extends the learning day with additional instructional and enrichment activities.
We welcome our parents and community members. Parent involvement is vital to our students’ success. Parents ensure their child’s learning continues with daily homework support at home. Parents’ sincere interest in their child’s learning experience significantly increases successful achievement at school. Volunteering provides opportunities for parents to positively connect into our daily learning environment. Parents have a voice in our school through our School Site Council, English Language Advisory Committee and informally through Coffee with the Administrator meetings.
We appreciate the dedication and consistent work of our staff to ensure an effective instructional environment is available for all of our students every day.
It is my joy to serve you and your family. You are welcome to come by or call me at (760) 246-4118. I’m looking forward to enjoying another wonderful year with our students!
